How to Ace Your Acting Auditions

If you are an actor hoping to make it big or, at least, make a living out of acting it is important to learn how to ace your acting audition. By “acing” we don’t mean, get every job because that is just impossible. What we do mean is make the best impression possible, which is all you can expect of yourself, right? We’ve assembled some tips below on how you can go about acing your acting auditions – thus putting your best foot forward.

Acting Auditions Tip 1: Bring Your Resume and Head Shots

Every actor should be aware, as with any job interview, that you need your resume. This is no different. Heed our acting auditions tips: Actors are required to bring headshots so that casting directors will be able to remember your face once you leave. Do make sure that your resume is up-to-date and that you have proofread it more than once to make sure that there aren’t any typos. Also, with respect to your head shots, make sure that they’ve been taken fairly recently – and that you haven’t experienced any dramatic changes in your look (i.e. hair cut, hair color, weight loss, weight gain). You should be giving out current pictures of yourself and not what you looked like two years ago when you could fit into your high school jeans.

Acting Auditions Tips 2: Bring Your Script to Practice

No matter how confident you are in knowing the part you are about to recite, you should always heed these important audition tips and come prepared with a written copy. Coming without anything may make you look disinterested, unprepared, or worse yet, cocky. Do take the time to rehearse your lines and to give your lines a once over before taking the floor. Many well known actors and comedians have forgotten their lines mid-stream so don’t think it can’t happen to you, because it can.

Acting Auditions Tip 3: Bring Your “A” Game

Let’s not forget why you are interested in acting anyway, right? – because you have a passion for it. So let that passion shine, by bringing that vigor and love of the art to your audition. Take these audition tips to heart and you’ll go very far in improving the impression you make on casting directors. So many people take these very simple rules for granted – coming late, disheveled, unprepared, unfocused or too cocky to care about anything anyone else says, but themselves. If you want to increase your chances of getting an audition, of getting a part, make a good reputation for yourself to begin with – at least, be known as the actor who is serious, comes prepared, and is always ready to work. If you work hard enough, surely one day someone will notice and it may not seem like something big at first, but then that’s what actors often refer back on as “their big break.”
