The legit ones can be phony as well depending on the person. A good rule of thumb to go by is if they ask for money then they’re scamming you. An agency won’t charge a thing if they really want you. If they all want money then you aren’t really model material…

Well, for modeling an agency is LEGIT is by not making you pay them. That’s all I know for modeling. For acting they must have SAG which stand for Screen Actors Guild and not making you pay them. They only take 10% of money from what you make.Hope this HELP you a LOT!

Go to the SAG and AFTRA websites and look up franchised agents in your area. The ones listed are completely legit acting agencies. I am not sure about modeling agencies.

Agents that ask for compensation for anything are generally not legit, especially if it is over 100 dollars. Ones that ask for small fees, around 25 dollars, may still find you jobs, but proceed with caution. Places that make you take classes or pay for headshots right away or pay an upfront “representation” fee aren’t legit. There are several web resources about spotting scams. Just do a quick google search and educate yourself about them.

    Okay.
How agencies work is when you sign, they help you get the jobs you need.
You don’t pay them until they find you a job that pays.
Whatever the job is, commercial, film, show, etc., you will get payed.
They take their percentages out when you make the money.

LEGIT AGENCIES are agencies that get payed doing their job.
They get payed when you do.
They help you find the jobs that you need, and in return, you pay them with the money you earned.

FAKE AGENCIES are the ones that promise to get you a job for a price.
If you have to pay them before hand, its most likely a fake.
They aren’t supposed to get payed until you do.
Their job is to find you an acting gig/job that pays so they can get payed in return.

    Bottom line:

    Fake: You pay them.

Legit: They sign you, find you a job, they get payed.

the way to find out is if they ask money up front. Always remember that a agent and a agency only takes 10-15% of what YOU make. Ask questions. Find info online on their agency. Background checks. I work for a agency called talent plus los latinos agency. Its in san francisco. Although they arent big as you think but they help actors models and muscians find work. Ive found a lot of work from them
