CTP The Mouse That Roared Auditions – 1438320
07-28-14 – Pittsburgh, PA – Auditions for CTP’s 25th Anniversary production of “The Mouse That Roared”

Everyone is invited to audition – this will be a “cold” reading of selected scenes from the play. No preparation or experience is required. This is a large production, with parts small and large, and young and old. If you have ever had an inkling to try your hand at acting in community theater, this is a great opportunity to get your feet wet.

A pretty girl of 22 happens to be the present Duchess Gloriana, sovereign of a microscopic country in the Alps founded centuries ago by a roving band of English bowmen. Gloriana’s unique solution to the near bankruptcy of her tiny domain is to declare war on the U.S.! There’s some method to her madness, however, for her study of recent history suggests that the surest way to wealth today is to lose a war with the United States, for that country’s odd reaction is to pour aid, relief and rehabilitation on the vanquished. When her “declaration” is considered a prank, Gloriana decides to escalate! Tully Bascomb, presently in charge of the bowmen, is to launch an attack so they can surrender and reap the rewards. Serious-minded Tully, however, upsets all calculations when he and his bowmen do the last thing expected — they win. — Project Type: Live Event

Lewis’ classic, set in the land of Narnia, faithfully recreates the magic and mystery of Aslan, the great lion, his struggle with the White Witch, and the adventures of four children who inadvertently wander from an old wardrobe into the exciting, never-to-be-forgotten Narnia. The intense action features chases, duels and escapes as the witch is determined to keep Narnia in her possession and to end the reign of Aslan. All the memorable episodes from the story are represented in this exciting dramatization: the temptation of Edmund by the witch, the slaying of the evil wolf by Peter, the witnessing of Aslan’s resurrection by Susan and Lucy, the crowing of the four new rulers of Narnia, and more. The supporting characters are also here: the unicorn, the centaur and other forest animals, along with Father Christmas, Mr. and Mrs. Beaver and Tumnus the Faun. This is where, in “The Game’s Afoot,” he invites fellow cast members for a weekend of fun, which takes a sinister turn when oneof his guests is stabbed to death. Gillette takes on the persona of Sherlock Holmes to solve the case before the killer strikes again.

In 1930’s Austria, a young woman named Maria is failing miserably in her attempts to become a nun. When the Navy captain Georg Von Trapp writes to the convent asking for a governess that can handle his seven mischievous children, Maria is given the job. The Captain’s wife is dead, and he is often away, and runs the household as strictly as he does the ships he sails on. The children are unhappy and resentful of the governesses that their father keeps hiring, and have managed to run each of them off one by one. When Maria arrives, she is initially met with the same hostility, but her kindness, understanding, and sense of fun soon draws them to her and brings some much-needed joy into all their lives — including the Captain’s. Eventually he and Maria find themselves falling in love, even though Georg is already engaged to a Baroness and Maria is still a postulant. The romance makes them both start questioning the decisions they have made. Their personal conflicts soon become overshadowed, however, by world events. Austria is about to come under the control of Germany, and the Captain may soon find himself drafted into the German navy and forced to fight against his own country. — Project Type: Live Event

BCT Chicago Auditions – 1436315
07-17-14 – Cleveland, OH>Pittsburgh, PA – Auditions for FCOA’s Applefest Production of CHICAGO

Note: You do NOT need to be there promptly at the starting time in order to audition

SINGING: Prepare 32 bars of a song of your choice. With the exception of Mary Sunshine’s “Little Bit of Good,” there is very little pretty, legit singing in this show. It’s heavy on the belting and on the twenties style of pop singing, so choosing something in that vein would be helpful. I’m okay with hearing songs from this show in audition. Accompanist will be provided (pro tip: it’s almost never a
good idea to audition a capella).

DANCING: We’ll be looking not just for dancing ability, but trying to assess level of ability and how well you can pick stuff up. You’ll be taught a sequence at the audition, and we’ll look at dancers in groups. Just relax and give it your best shot.

READING: We will do some cold reads on the spot. If you definitely just want to sing and/or dance without every opening your mouth, we won’t make you read anything. There will be a copy or two of the script in the waiting area so that you can look over things ahead of time if you wish.

In roaring twenties Chicago, Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband Amos to take the rap…until he finds out he’s been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another “Merry Murderess” Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the “American Dream”: fame, fortune and acquittal. This sharp edged satire features a dazzling score that sparked immortal staging by Bob Fosse and was the winner of 6 Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical.

The Franklin-Civic Operetta Association is proud to bring to the region this timeless favorite. As the second longest running musical on Broadway, the ability to bring this to a regional stage, such as the Barrow-Civic Theatre, has been a difficult one. Now that the rights have been secured, the community is psyched to see another great Applefest production… we need YOU! — Project Type: Live Event
