“As You Like It”
Directed by: Lisa Ann Goldsmith

*Actors should prepare a brief comedic Shakespearean monologue.

Synopsis:
The play is set in a duchy in France, but most of the action takes place in a location called the Forest of Arden, which may be intended for the Ardennes, a forested region covering an area located in southeast Belgium, western Luxembourg and northeastern France, but sometimes is identified with Arden, Warwickshire, near Shakespeare’s home town, which was the ancestral origin of his mother’s family, who incidentally were called Arden.

Frederick has usurped the Duchy and exiled his older brother, Duke Senior. The Duke’s daughter, Rosalind, has been permitted to remain at court because she is the closest friend and cousin of Frederick’s only child, Celia. Orlando, a young gentleman of the kingdom who at first sight has fallen in love with Rosalind, is forced to flee his home after being persecuted by his older brother, Oliver. Frederick becomes angry and banishes Rosalind from court. Celia and Rosalind decide to flee together accompanied by the jester, Touchstone, with Rosalind disguised as a young man and Celia disguised as a poor lady. — Project Type: Live Event

Auditions5 Women Wearing The Same Dress – 1420317
04-22-14 – Pittsburgh, PA>Washington, DC – Front & Centre Stage Productions is excited to announce auditions for the comedy FIVE WOMEN WEARING THE SAME DRESS written by Alan Ball. Ball is one the most prolific writers in America today, most notable for penning the screenplay to the Oscar-winning film American Beauty and creating the Emmy-winning cable series Six Feet Under. FIVE WOMEN was written early in his career and was hailed by critics as “wildly entertaining” (NY Post) and “a fresh-as-a-daisy comedy, funny as can be” (NY Daily News).

The timeless and funny story is set during an ostentatious wedding reception at a Knoxville, Tennessee, estate, where five reluctant, identically clad bridesmaids hide out in an upstairs bedroom, each with her own reason to avoid the proceedings below. As the afternoon wears on, these five very different women joyously discover a common bond in this wickedly funny, irreverent and touching celebration of the women’s spirit.

Roles are available for women primarily in their mid 20s to mid 30s, and one man, around 29 (one scene). All must speak in Southern accents. — Project Type: Live Event

2014 Steel Magnolias Auditions – 1418903
04-08-14 – Cleveland, OH>Pittsburgh, PA – Greenville Area Community Theater is proud to announce auditions for this summers production of “Steel Magnolias” by Robert Harling.

“Steel Magnolias” is the story of Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, (”I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a bad mood for forty years”); an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a “good ole boy.” Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the play moves toward tragedy when, in the second act, the spunky Shelby (who is a diabetic) risks pregnancy and forfeits her life. The sudden realization of their mortality affects the others, but also draws on the underlying strength—and love—which give the play, and its characters, the special quality to make them truly touching, funny and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad.

Auditions will be done in groups of 6 that will read selected scenes from the play.

Rehearsals will be the months of May, June, and July.
The production dates are July 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27. — Project Type: Live Event
