BCT Chicago Auditions – 1436315
07-17-14 – Cleveland, OH>Pittsburgh, PA – Auditions for FCOA’s Applefest Production of CHICAGO

Note: You do NOT need to be there promptly at the starting time in order to audition

SINGING: Prepare 32 bars of a song of your choice. With the exception of Mary Sunshine’s “Little Bit of Good,” there is very little pretty, legit singing in this show. It’s heavy on the belting and on the twenties style of pop singing, so choosing something in that vein would be helpful. I’m okay with hearing songs from this show in audition. Accompanist will be provided (pro tip: it’s almost never a
good idea to audition a capella).

DANCING: We’ll be looking not just for dancing ability, but trying to assess level of ability and how well you can pick stuff up. You’ll be taught a sequence at the audition, and we’ll look at dancers in groups. Just relax and give it your best shot.

READING: We will do some cold reads on the spot. If you definitely just want to sing and/or dance without every opening your mouth, we won’t make you read anything. There will be a copy or two of the script in the waiting area so that you can look over things ahead of time if you wish.

In roaring twenties Chicago, Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband Amos to take the rap…until he finds out he’s been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another “Merry Murderess” Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the “American Dream”: fame, fortune and acquittal. This sharp edged satire features a dazzling score that sparked immortal staging by Bob Fosse and was the winner of 6 Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical.

The Franklin-Civic Operetta Association is proud to bring to the region this timeless favorite. As the second longest running musical on Broadway, the ability to bring this to a regional stage, such as the Barrow-Civic Theatre, has been a difficult one. Now that the rights have been secured, the community is psyched to see another great Applefest production… we need YOU! — Project Type: Live Event

Between his younger brother Randy and having to handle school bully Scut Farkus, Ralphie doesn’t know how he’ll ever survive long enough to get the BB gun for Christmas. When Ralph asks his mother for a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas, she says, “No, you’ll shoot your eye out”. When Mrs. Shields, Ralph’s teacher at Harding Elementary School, assigns the class to write a theme about what they want for Christmas, Ralph sees a golden opportunity to express his desire to have a Red Ryder BB gun. Ralph gets a C+ on the theme, and Mrs. Shields has written “You’ll shoot your eye out” on the theme. Ralph’s next plan is to ask Santa Claus for a Red Ryder BB gun, and how does Santa respond? By saying “You’ll shoot your eye out, kid.” By this time, Ralph has had enough of that. When Scut Farkus and his sidekick Grover Dill start in on Ralph while he’s on his way home from school that day, Ralph knocks Grover Dill to the ground, beats Scut’s face bloody, and then pounds Scut’s head on the snow-covered ground several times. Ralph thinks he’ll never get the BB gun for Christmas now. And all of the other kids are going to be getting what they want for Christmas. AuditionAnd Then There Were None – GLTG – 1433831
07-03-14 – Cleveland, OH>Pittsburgh, PA – And Then There Were None Auditions

Synopsis:
Eight people arrive on an isolated island off the Devonshire coast of England. Each appears to have an invitation tailored to his or her personal circumstances, such as an offer of employment or an unexpected late summer holiday. They are met by the island owners’ butler and cook (who have never met their employer), making a total of ten people known to be on the island. While awaiting their hosts, they find a framed copy of the nursery rhyme “Ten Little Soldiers” (”Niggers” or “Indians” in respective earlier editions) hanging on the wall, and notice ten figurines on the dining room table, as well as discussing other oddities about the house and their visit. The butler plays a gramophone (or “phonograph”) record while they are talking, as he had been instructed to do; unexpectedly the recording contains a voice that describes each visitor in turn and accuses each of having committed murder but evading justice, and asks if any of “the accused” wishes to give a defense. All are shocked and in the aftermath one of the guests (Anthony Marston) has a drink to help with the shock, however his drink contained potassium cyanide and he chokes and dies. Subsequently the guests notice one of the ten figurines is now broken, and the nursery rhyme appears to reflect the manner of death (”One choked his little self and then there were nine”).
