Jcc Uncommoners Les Miserables – 1419082
04-10-14 – Buffalo, NY>Pittsburgh, PA – Great news! The JCC Uncommoners will be presenting the Broadway musical LES MISERABLES in the fall of 2014!

You will need to prepare a song to sing which will show off your vocal range and acting ability. Your song does not need to be from the show, but it should be memorized and allow you to show emotion and finesse. From these auditions, we will narrow down the playing field and invite the best singers back to vie for the lead roles at our final auditions in August. However, a large chorus and technical crew will be needed. So, almost everyone will find themselves involved with the show at some level.

About The Play:

Jean Valjean is released after spending 19 years in prison for stealing a loaf of bread. As a result he is a bitter and desperate man. Due to the kindness of a Bishop, Valjean is able to find God, redemption and motivation for becoming a better man. Eventually he rises to become Mayor of Montreuil-sur-Mer and a factory owner. Unfortunately, he has also broken his parole and Javert, a police man, is in constant pursuit. As one of his workers, Fontine, is about to die, Valjean promises to take care of her daughter, Cosette. After Valjean collects Cosette from the money-grubbing Thenardiers, (where she had been lodging), the show moves 9 years to the future and Cosette has now grown into a young lady. With the French Revolution ensuing, Cosette falls in love with a student revolutionary, Marius.

Finally, during the Paris student uprising of 1832, Javert must confront his ideals after Valjean spares his life and saves that of the student revolutionary who has captured the heart of Valjean’s adopted daughter. “THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER”
Synopsis:
Tom Sawyer lived with his Aunt Polly and his half-brother, Sid. Tom dirties his clothes in a fight and is made to whitewash the fence the next day, as a punishment. He cleverly persuades his friends to trade him small treasures for the privilege of doing his work. He trades the treasures for Sunday School tickets which one normally receives for memorizing scriptures, redeeming them for a bible, much to the surprise and bewilderment of the superintendent who thought “it was simply preposterous that this boy had warehoused two thousand sheaves of Scriptural wisdom on his premises—a dozen would strain his capacity, without a doubt.”

“THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK”
Synopsis:
During the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands Anne Frank began to keep a diary on June 14, 1942, two days after her 13th birthday, and twenty two days before going into hiding with her mother, father, sister, and three other people. The group went into hiding in the sealed-off upper rooms of the annex of her father’s office building in Amsterdam.

*No preparation required.

“Mrs. Lincoln,” by Thomas Cullinan, will be directed by Sharee Lemos. In 1875, ten years after Lincoln’s tragic death, his widow was declared insane and confined in the Bethlehem Place Sanitarium, Batavia, Illinois, for about a year. Cullinan has set his play in the confines of this room and Mary Todd Lincoln recalls the incidents of her married life, far beyond the four walls that surround her.

“MOON OVER BUFFALO”
Synopsis:
In the madcap comedy tradition of “Lend me a Tenor,” also by Ludwig, the hilarious “Moon Over Buffalo” centers on George and Charlotte Hay, fading stars of the 1950’s. At the moment, they’re playing Private Lives and Cyrano De Bergerac in rep in Buffalo, New York with 5 actors. Mainstage Season Other Desert Cities – 1417078
03-26-14 – Buffalo, NY>Cleveland, OH – Auditions for our third and final mainstage production of the season, OTHER DESERT CITIES by Jon Robin Baitz

This production is directed by Zach Flock, artistic director of Dramashop. The production will rehearse for approximately seven weeks, beginning the week of April 6 through the May 22 opening.

A 2012 Pulitzer Prize finalist, OTHER DESERT CITIES is a riveting family drama set in 2004 and concerning the adult children of a California couple. A family divided by politics is driven further apart by the rehashing of an old family secret. OTHER DESERT CITIES provides a searing look at the dramatics of life in the American family, and the tension of political rivalries when they intersect with philosophical and moral beliefs.

WHAT TO PREPARE: Prepared monologues are welcome but not required. Cold readings from the script will be provided at auditions.

AVAILABLE ROLES: All roles are open and will be cast based on auditions. Age ranges listed below are approximations based on the director’s vision for the production – don’t let your actual age prevent you from auditioning; anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to audition!

We prefer that you audition during the scheduled times out of respect to the director and other auditionees, but if you are unable to make it and are interested in auditioning, you may contact us VIA EMAIL PRIOR TO AUDITIONS to potentially audition at another time. While we understand conflicts arise, we cannot guarantee auditions outside of the scheduled audition hours.
